Starting School
Every effort is made to ensure that children joining Plasnewydd Primary, either for their first time in
school, or transferring to us from another school have a smooth and positive process. For parents who
are considering whether to bring their children to us, we are always happy to arrange for families to
have a look around our school and to discuss any questions or concerns with them.
For incoming Nursery pupils, we offer 8stay and play9 sessions for children and information sessions for
parents. To help children settle in, we use a staggered start approach, allowing staff to provide
individual attention and build relationships. Attendance is gradually increased over one to two weeks,
ensuring children are ready for a full school day. Parents are encouraged to ensure their child is toilettrained before starting, but staff are available to assist if needed.
Plasnewydd Primary School is a warm and welcoming environment; prospective parents and children are
strongly encouraged to visit the school, meet the teachers and to experience the atmosphere of the
school. They will be given a copy of the School Prospectus and other information about school life.
Any parents wishing to visit the school should contact the office in the first instance to arrange a
suitable time to meet with the Headteacher.
Upon starting in school parents are requested to complete a number of documents including:
•
admission form with contact details, allergy information, details of any specific needs.
•
Permissions for routine off-site visits, photography, internet access*
* These documents should be at the back of the prospectus pack
