Parental Involvement
We have a very successful Parents and Friends Association who meet regularly in the school.
They help to organise a number of events including our school fete and Christmas fundraisers.
As a result of their support we have been able to fund:
• School visits for classes.
• Purchasing additional equipment for school.
• Outdoor facilities
We see this as a very valuable link in our close links between school, home and community. The
school warmly welcomes the involvement of its parents, wider families and other community
members into the life of the school.
Home/School Communication
When pupils first join us Plasnewydd Primary, parents are asked to provide a
range of information for their child, including personal details, emergency
contacts and allergy information. As part of our day to-day school business, we
store, use and share certain personal information. This is subject to GDPR
regulations and is covered in our privacy notice. We also ask parents to provide
their signed consent to some further activities which are common to the life of
the school, such as using photographs and video and access to online services.
In order to ensure prompt and effective communication, together with reducing use of paper,
almost all formal communication with parents is carried out through our school messaging
system 8Teachers to Parents=. This enables us to send short messages and longer emails /
attachments to ensure that parents are kept fully informed. From time to time, we canvas
parents9 views and opinions about a range of school matters. This helps us to reflect upon the
effectiveness of our school processes and such feedback is always welcomed, positive or
otherwise and we do our best to act accordingly to feedback and constructive suggestions.
Transition to Comprehensive School
Plasnewydd Primary School enjoys strong links with Maesteg School, the local
comprehensive school to which almost all our pupils attend after leaving us.
We have a very full transition programme which is built into the curriculum in the
last term the children are with us. Our cluster of schools in the Maesteg area has
devised a Transition Plan which will improve and enhance these links. Transition arrangements
include visits from Maesteg School staff to Plasnewydd to deliver planned lessons to our Year 6
pupils and also visits by our pupils to their prospective schools.
