Religious Education and Collective Worship
Religious Education (RE) is part of the basic curriculum and part of
the school curriculum. Our RE provision follows the SACRE framework
and explores the beliefs of some of the world9s major faiths, including
Christianity, Hinduism, Judaism and Islam, viewed from the perspective of the child and
drawing on common themes and similarities. This is not to be confused with collective worship.
Collective worship (8assemblies9) is a statutory part of school provision and is primarily Christian
in character. We encourage pupils to consider and reflect on moral, social as well as spiritual
issues.
During assemblies, pupils are encouraged
to explore their own and others9 beliefs
and values and to participate, respond to
and challenge new ideas. Collective
worship is structured to show
sensitivity to the individual faiths and
beliefs of all members of the school
community. This includes visits from
local faith groups. Any parents who, for
religious reasons, wish to withdraw their children from school assemblies or Religious Education
activities are invited to discuss this with the head teacher in order to be aware of the
possibility of alternative arrangements.
Assemblies are also a time of celebration where we celebrate pupil achievements and dedication
to their learning.
