Our philosophy at Plasnewydd Primary School is that all children have strengths and areas to
develop. It is our duty to enable children to develop their skills (academic, physical, creative,
social and spiritual) to the best of our ability. In order to do this we will employ a range of
strategies at different times. Grouping is simply one of those strategies.
Additional Learning Needs Provision
At Plasnewydd Primary School we aim to:
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
enable every pupil to experience success
•
promote individual confidence and a positive attitude
•
ensure that all pupils, whatever their additional learning needs,
receive appropriate educational provision through a broad and
balanced curriculum that is relevant and differentiated, and that
demonstrates coherence and progression in learning
give pupils with ALN equal opportunities to take part in all aspects of the school9s
provision, as far as is appropriate
identify, assess, record and regularly review pupils9 progress and needs
involve parents/carers in planning and supporting at all stages of their children9s
development
be pupil centred and involve the child in decision making where appropriate
work collaboratively with parents, other professionals and support services
ensure that the responsibility held by all staff and governors for ALN is implemented and
maintained.
Under ALN reform, very few children will be placed on the ALN register going forwards, as
schools are deemed to be able to provide for most/ nearly all learners through its 8universal
provision9. The needs of pupils will be met through a Graduated Response to ensure appropriate
provision for all pupils identified as having Additional Learning Needs.
All children with Additional Learning Needs will have Additional Learning Provision (ALP) in place
which will be outlined in an Individual Development Plan (IDP). These plans will ensure that children
and their parents are involved in making decisions to secure the support they need in order to
thrive in school. Progress is monitored by the ALN Co-ordinator (ALNCo) in consultation with
class teachers, parents and appropriate outside agencies. Mrs Rees-Williams is our Additional
Learning Needs co-ordinator (ALNCo).
