Medicines
As a general rule children suffering from an illness requiring regular doses
of drugs or medicines will not be well enough to attend school. For
children who need to use inhalers or pumps etc. these will be stored in a
first-aid bag in the classroom and will be close at hand. In such cases
pupils are encouraged to administer the dosage themselves. Only in
exceptional circumstances will medicines or drugs will be administered by staff in the school.
This medication must be 8as prescribed9 and provided in its container with the prescription label.
Parents will need to complete a medicine authorisation form, available from the school office,
without which staff cannot administer medicines.
Child Protection and Safeguarding
Plasnewydd Primary School has as its priority the protection and wellbeing of
all pupils in our school. The Headteacher has overall responsibility for child
protection matters and acts as a source of advice and support to other
school staff. We also have a nominated child protection governor who has to
ensure that the school has a Child Protection Policy in place which is
consistent with the All Wales Child Protection Procedures (2022) and that
all staff in the school must follow where there are concerns or suspicions of any safeguarding
issues.
If we receive information about a child which suggests that they have been abused or at risk of
being abused we have a duty to refer these concerns to the social services department or the
police without delay. We have no discretion in this matter. Our first concern as a school is your
child9s welfare and where we have general concerns these will be raised with you and we would
want to work with you to support you. If we have concerns about your child, we will always
endeavour to discuss these fully with you in a way which is consistent with your child9s best
interests.
