Jewellery/Hairstyles
The wearing of most jewellery is forbidden, for reasons of safety and
security. Whilst parents are urged not to let their children wear
earrings to school at all, we will accept
simple studs. However, for safety reasons, pupils will be required to
remove these studs for P.E. and therefore must be able to handle these
themselves. On no occasion will staff take any responsibility for the
safe-keeping of jewellery, watches or earrings. Watches are permitted
but the school will not accept responsibility for their safety.
The school does not permit children to have 8extreme9 hairstyles that could serve as a
distraction to other children. Examples may include (but are not limited to) mohicans, dyed
red, words shaved into the hair).
Where pupils sport extreme hairstyles, or repeatedly attend school out of uniform, parents may
be contacted and expected to make appropriate alterations. Pupils may be sent home for such
alterations to be made.
Pupils are not allowed to bring mobile telephones into school. If older pupils, who usually walk to
and from school unaccompanied, bring phones into school they need to be handed into reception
where they will be stored securely. School will not accept any responsibility for loss or damage
to any phones brought into school.
Pupil Health and Wellbeing
It is vital that children who show symptoms of being unwell should not be sent to school.
They will not be capable of achieving good work and could pass on their illness to others.
In the case of infectious diseases such as chicken pox, measles, German measles,
whooping cough, mumps etc, the school must be informed immediately. If your child is taken ill
at school you will be contacted and asked to make arrangements for him/her to be taken home.
Accidents and Emergencies
If your child has an accident during the school day, such as a scratch or
graze, the school will administer simple first aid. In the event of a more
serious cut or blow (especially to the head) the school will record these
details in the accident log and attempt to contact parents so that the child
has the opportunity for the injury to be seen by a medical professional.
There are several members of staff in school who are trained in First Aid
and are able to deal with medical emergencies.
For the reasons given above it is particularly important that the school maintains accurate
contact details for parents - at home, work or mobile numbers.
Please ensure that you keep us up-to-date with how best to contact you during the school day.
